Prof. Joshua (Shuki) Shemer

Prof. Joshua (Shuki) Shemer currently serves as Chairman of the Board of the Assuta Medical Centers, the largest private hospital network in Israel.
He also serves as the Director of the Israeli Center for Technology Assessment in Health Care (ICTAHC), at the Gertner Institute, Tel-Hashomer, a supportive research center to the Israeli Ministry of Health regarding health policy and decision-making processes of health technologies.
Prof. Shemer, a graduate of the Hebrew University and Hadassah School of Medicine, is also a faculty member in the Tel Aviv University, Business School, specializing in managing medical technologies.
In past years he has served in numerous managerial positions, including, as CEO of Maccabi (2002-2007), the second largest HMO in Israel; former Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Health (1999-2000); Surgeon General of the Israeli Defense Forces (Ret. Brigadier General) (1994-1997).
He has also headed several national reform committees in Israel and has actively participated in over a hundred national and international scientific meetings abroad.
Prof. Shemer is also a prolific writer and editor with over 200 publications in prominent professional publications, including 6 books in the fields of trauma, terror, health reform and technology assessment and over 20 chapters in several books.
